Burj Al Arab Jumeirah Tour

Rising from its own artificial island off Jumeirah Beach, the Burj Al Arab is one of the most recognisable buildings in the world. With Al Zarra, you can step inside Dubai's sail-shaped icon for a guided look at its lavish interiors, its architecture, and the story behind it.

The Story Behind the Burj Al Arab

Dubai's leaders wanted a landmark that would show how far the city had come, one as instantly recognisable as the Eiffel Tower or the Sydney Opera House. Construction began in 1994 and was completed in five years, and the hotel opened in December 1999.

It stands on a man-made island 280 metres from the shore, built on deep concrete piles anchored into the seabed. The hotel was commissioned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and designed by British architect Tom Wright. Its sail-shaped design is inspired by the traditional Arabian dhow, linking the modern structure to Dubai's maritime heritage. At 321 metres, it was among the tallest hotels in the world when it opened.

Inside is one of the tallest atriums in the world, rising more than 180 metres and surrounded by golden columns and richly coloured interiors.
